In manufacturer efforts to assure absorption, these tablets are not coated

planted in the fall, the original product grows slowly through the winter and
is harvested during a very specific time in the spring, which is referred to
as the "pre-jointing stage." PureGreen wheat grass requires approximately
200 days of slow growth through the winter and early spring to build very high
nutritional levels.
When wheat grass is allowed to develop normally in a natural
climate, the dense root structure combines with over 200 days of sunlight to
produce a plant that has extremely high nutritional value. Then it is low temperature
dehydrated, stabilized and stored as pellets. Pellets are then made into powders
and tablets for consumption. Wheat grass grown quickly in trays under artificial
lights contains considerably less nutritional content than that grown outdoors
in a natural climate, and harvested at the once-per-year pre-jointing stage.
Most juice bars sell 1 ounce of wheat grass juice for $1.25 and
up, or over $20 per pound. Of this 95% is water and 5% is powder, therefore
the wheat grass nutritional component actually costs you $400 per pound!
Organic Wheat Grass Nutritional Profile

Dehydrated Wheat Grass vs. Tray-Grown Fresh Wheat Grass
Dried wheat grass is nutritionally much higher, and the array
of nutritional components much greater than fresh squeezed. For example:
Dehydrated organic wheat grass
protein - 25.0%, chlorophyll - 0.6%, vitamin C - 2.145 mg/g
Fresh juiced wheat grass
protein - 2.8%, chlorophyll - 0.1%, vitamin C - 0.0357 mg/g
These relationships hold true for almost all the nutritional
components. The reputed advantage of fresh squeezed wheat grass has to do with
the enzyme activity. Enzyme activity is difficult to measure because
upon juicing the enzymes degrade very quickly. Fresh squeezed is reported to
be higher in enzymatic activity than dehydrated.
PureGreen dehydrated whole leaf wheat grass is dehydrated
at low temperature to preserve as many enzymes as possible.
Both types of wheat grass contain the anti-oxidant super-oxide-dismutase
(SOD) and the special fraction P4D1. The question then becomes, how many enzymes
do you need? The addition of enzymes to diet, is an individual choice. Many
researchers believe your body manufactures all the enzymes it needs, and additional
enzymes are discarded as waste. |
